Settlement Department

Our multilingual, professional staff works actively to help immigrants and refugees settle successfully in Canada.  Our in-house services are supported by partnerships with Housing Help, Legal Aid Ontario and LASI-World Skills to enable us to provide a complete one-stop service to our clients.  We assist with:

  • Settlement Counselling Services
    related to
    • Documentation       
    • Mediation & crisis management
    • Immigration issues
    • Health  Referrals
    • Obtaining financial assistance
    • Citizenship
    • Interpretation
    • Translation
    • Employment
    • Accompaniment
  • Settlement to Employment Program (STEP) Career Mentoring
    STEP is a program for internationally trained individuals offering:
    • Step-by step planning, support and referrals
    • Employment and academic guidance
    • Profession-specific mentoring
    • Canadian workplace skills training
    • Profession-specific work placements
    • Language assessment and training
    • Assessment of foreign credentials

    The Career Mentoring portion of this program, delivered by OCISO, provides internationally trained individuals with:
    • Access to a Career Mentor currently working in a similar profession in Canada
    • Access to professional networks
    • An understanding of Canadian working culture and practices
    • Assistance with resumes, cover letters and job interview preparation
    • An experienced and supportive ally in your efforts to secure employment in your field in Canada
