About Us
Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization (OCISO) is a non-profit organization that has been assisting immigrants and refugees with settlement and integration issues since 1978.

We are a multi-service agency with award-winning programs for students and schools, English language training, immigrant women, job seekers, victims of torture, families and communities.
Annually, more than 8,000 immigrants and refugees land in Ottawa to make it their home, with approximately 4,500 newcomer students in Ottawa’s schools. OCISO serves more than 25,000 immigrants and refugees every year.
Our services help newcomers to help themselves by providing information, counselling, and support.
OCISO's Approach to Service Delivery
OCISO's staff provides integrated service delivery that helps newcomers access resources, sponsor their families, manage change and meet new challenges while maintaining their cultural integrity and contribute their gifts and resources to our community.
Staff engages in delivery of quality services by applying a client-centered philosophical approach that entails comprehensive initial assessment and re-assessment after each contact. This holistic intervention takes into consideration each family member's needs as their needs change, as well as their past and current context, profile and resources.
OCISO has demonstrated the capacity and flexibility to deal with changes related to client demographics and unexpected influx of newcomers from all over the world.
Our 318 volunteers contributed 15,012 hours of services during our 2007-2008 fiscal year (based on our annual report). OCISO is fortunate to have the assistance of university and high school co-op placement students and students doing their mandatory 40 hours of volunteer work.
